4 teens charged after shooting leaves 3 dead in Spotsylvania County

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Four teenagers are facing charges in connection to a shooting that left three people dead in Spotsylvania County on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said authorities charged two 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old identified as Jeremiah Upson with "malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony unlawful assembly."

Deputies noted that two of the suspects are residents of Spotsylvania County, and the other two are residents of Caroline County.

On April 8, at around 5:30 p.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting in the area of Olde Greenwich Circle. There, they found multiple people shot.

Three people died, and first responders took two others to the hospital.

As of Wednesday morning, authorities released the names of two of the three men who died, identifying them as Chase Feaster, 18, and Alonzo Goffney, 18, both of Spotsylvania County. The SCSO added that the name of the third man, a 20-year-old, will be released upon confirmation from the medical examiner.

Three of the teen suspects are being held without bond. The fourth suspect, one of the 16-year-olds, is hospitalized with a gunshot wound but will be jailed after his release, according to deputies. The 17-year-old was also shot but has since been released from the hospital.

The SCSO said an initial investigation showed that the shooting occurred during an "illegal gun sale/robbery."

"We want to thank our partnership with the Fredericksburg Police Department and the Virginia State Police for their assistance during the investigation," said the sheriff's office. "We would certainly be remiss if we didn’t thank our community during what has been a stressful and heartbreaking several days."

The shooting is still under investigation as authorities decide whether to file any murder charges.

The deadly shooting comes two days after a separate incident, where a gun discharged in a third-grade student's backpack at Lee Hill Elementary School. Fortunately, no one was injured.
