41-year-old Caroline County man charged with strangulation, attempted robbery and abduction after alleged assault
CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 41-year-old Caroline County man has been charged with strangulation, abduction and attempted robbery, among others, after an alleged assault.
On April 16, while working on an unrelated case, an investigator with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office encountered a female who had visible injuries "consistent with an assault and strangulation."
The investigator reportedly saw serious facial injuries and marks around the victim's neck. According to the sheriff's office, the victim said she had been violently attacked by a man, who she identified as 41-year-old Dionte Outterbridge of the county's Ruther Glen area.
The victim alleged that Outterbridge claimed she owed him money and that, after he allegedly physically assaulted her, he reportedly attempted to forcibly take a check from her.
The investigator immediately launched an investigation, taking the victim to the hospital for a forensic examination and collecting additional forensic evidence from the scene.
The investigator also obtained video footage that reportedly corroborated the victim's statements.
Search warrants were then carried out at Outterbridge's home and the vehicle he was driving. Investigators reportedly found items related to the alleged assault as well as suspected fentanyl pills and "other materials consistent with drug distribution."
According to officials, Outterbridge was charged with attempted robbery, strangulation, abduction, malicious wounding, and assault and battery.
Outterbridge was taken to Pamunkey Regional Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
"Additional charges are anticipated as the investigation continues," the sheriff's office said.
