Tips for traveling safely around large farm equipment on local roadways
KING AND QUEEN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — King and Queen officials are providing safety tips for drivers as more farm equipment will soon travel alongside vehicles on the road this spring.
County officials took to social media on Sunday, March 29, to urge residents to stay cautious as planting season gets underway, leading to an increase in large farm equipment traveling on local roadways.
Authorities with King and Queen Emergency Services urged residents to keep in mind that these vehicles move more slowly, make wide turns and may take up more than one lane. They provided several tips for drivers to stay safe on the road, including slowing down and being patient.

Drivers are also encouraged to give extra following distance as they watch for wide turns and sudden stops. Officials said to refrain from passing farm equipment on the roads unless it's clearly safe and legal to do so.
Drivers should also be especially cautious on curves and hills.
"Our farmers are hard at work feeding our community--let's do our part to keep them (and ourselves) safe," officials wrote.
