55-year-old woman dies following crash in Goochland County

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 55-year-old woman is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Goochland County Sunday afternoon.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at 2:06 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, in the 1800 block of Matthews Lane in Goochland County, according to Virginia State Police.

Officials said 55-year-old Stephanie Hubbard Proffitt of Goochland County was driving a 2020 Toyota Camry on Saint Matthews Road when she hit a guardrail about a quarter of a mile north of Rockville Road.

The vehicle then lost control and reportedly hit a tree. Proffitt died due to her injuries at the scene, police said. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
