56-year-old Midlothian man identified as person shot, killed by authorities in Nottoway

NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 56-year-old man from the Midlothian area of Chesterfield County has been identified as the person shot and killed by authorities in Nottoway County on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, Virginia State Police identified 56-year-old Michael Woodson, of the Midlothian area of Chesterfield County, as the person shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting in Nottoway County on Saturday.
Just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop a 2015 Toyota Tacoma for reportedly displaying fake license plates on Route 360 in Amelia County.
Virginia State Police said the driver of the Tacoma, identified as Woodson, failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

An Amelia County Sheriff's Office deputy then reportedly observed the vehicle traveling over 100 mph in a posted 55-mph zone before joining the pursuit. Deputies with the Nottoway County Sheriff's Office also responded a short time later, according to state police.
Officials said the Tacoma crashed at the intersection of Rocky Hill Road and eastbound Route 460 in Nottoway County, running off the right side of the highway and into the woods.
Woodson then reportedly fled the scene on foot and into the woods, where he was pursued by deputies and the state trooper.
According to state police, Woodson reportedly displayed a firearm during the pursuit, and shots were fired. A Nottoway County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot in the hand and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
State police said Woodson was shot and killed by authorities. No additional information on the circumstances of the shooting is available as of the time of reporting.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Richmond Field Office is investigating the incident.
