75-cent classic movies screening at Ashland Theatre

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- You can see a classic movie for just 75 cents at Hanover County's Ashland Theatre during its 1950's Monthly Movie Series.

The Ashland Theatre, located at 205 England St., first offered a monthly classic film series in August 2023. It showed 12 films from its opening year of 1948. The second series, which began in August 2024, featured 12 films from 1949.

Now, in this third year, the Ashland Theatre is sharing films from 1950. Starting on Monday, Sept. 15 and ending in August 2026, one classic will be screened each month -- and you can see them at a discounted price of 75 cents a ticket.

"1950 was a banner year for cinema, with titles that remain revered today, including 'Sunset Boulevard,' 'All About Eve,' 'Born Yesterday' and 'Harvey,'" the theatre said in a Sept. 4 press release. "Actors included in the series range from Jimmy Stewart to Fred Astaire, Bette Davis to Judy Holliday, Rock Hudson, Humphrey Bogart, Barbara Stanwyck, Marilyn Monroe and many more."

  • Monday, Oct. 13: 'Winchester ’73'
  • Monday, Nov. 10: 'Let’s Dance'
  • Monday, Dec. 8: 'Harvey'
  • Monday, Jan. 12, 2026: 'DOA'
  • Monday, Feb. 9, 2026: 'Rashomon'
  • Monday, March 9, 2026: 'Born Yesterday' (Academy Award Best Picture Nominee)
  • Monday, April 13, 2026: 'The File on Thelma Jordan'
  • Monday, May 11, 2026: 'Stage Fright'
  • Monday, June 15, 2026: 'In a Lonely Place'
  • Monday, July 13, 2026: 'All About Eve' (Academy Award Best Picture Winner)
  • Monday, Aug. 10, 2026: 'Les Enfants Terribles'

Each film will be screened at 7 p.m. on its respective date.

Tickets for Monday's show are available as of the time of reporting, while tickets for later showings will become available a week prior to the show's date.

According to the theatre, the 75-cent ticket price was made possible through the support of Dominion Energy.
