8News gets a visit from percussion group STOMP performers
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from the international percussion group STOMP on Friday ahead of their planned performances at the Dominion Energy Center's Carpenter Theatre this weekend.
Anchors Autumn Childress and Madison Moore were joined by several performers from the percussion group STOMP as they helped showcase what people can expect at their upcoming shows.
"STOMP is a percussion and movement piece basically, and we're making music out of objects that you find around your house, unconventional instruments we call them, and we're kind of communicating with rhythm," said Andrew Patrick, a STOMP performer and resident director. "There's no backing tracks there's no dialogue there's no singing, it's all just an hour and forty minutes of really high intensity energetic fun audience involvement, it's really cool."
Patrick was joined by Michael Mendoza, Isaiah Robinson and Jayme Overton to perform a piece in-studio called Hands and Feet -- which includes body percussion such as stomping and clapping. Beforehand, Overton talked to the anchors about how she came to join STOMP.
"I saw STOMP when I was eight on DVD and knew that that might be something that I want to do in the future, and I got to see the show live in New York, and then had a bunch of teachers growing up that were in STOMP, actually, so they got to teach me some of the things growing up -- I auditioned for the show in 2021, and the rest is history," Overton said.
STOMP will be at the Carpenter Theatre for one show on Friday, March 28 at 8 p.m. and two shows on Saturday, March 29 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. To learn more about the show, and to purchase tickets, click here.
