A victim has been identified following the Hopewell woman who was found dead

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- Police have released the identity of the Hopewell woman who was found unresponsive and with apparent head trauma on the 200 block of South 7th Avenue today, May 3.

The victim is, 57-year-old Renee Goode of Petersburg. After further investigation, 45-year-old Derek McPherson of Richmond, has been charged with the following charges:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

At 6:44 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, officers with the Hopewell Police Department were called to the 200 block of South 7th Avenue for a reported unresponsive woman lying on the ground--the woman was pronounce dead at the scene.

According to Hopewell Police, McPherson has been transported to Riverside Regional Jail where he was held without bond.

The Hopewell Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating this incident.
