All north lanes were closed on highway in Powhatan County due to multi-vehicle crash

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- All north travel lanes were closed on World War II Veterans Memorial Highway in Powhatan County on Friday morning due to a multi-vehicle crash. At 8:56 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, the Virginia Department of Transportation reported that all northbound travel lanes were closed on World War II Veterans Memorial Highway near Huguenot Trail and Robious Road due to a multi-vehicle crash. According to the department, there were three miles of delays on Friday morning. Traffic was diverted onto Huguenot Trail and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes. According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded to the crash involving five vehicles on World War II Veterans Memorial Highway at around 7:53 a.m. on Friday. Virginia State Police said at this point in its investigation, the crash was caused when a vehicle struck water on the roadway and spun out, causing a chain-reaction-style crash. According to officials, a person was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. At 9:40 a.m., all lanes were reported open and the scene was cleared.
