Amanda Pohl announces end of campaign for Congress in Virginia’s First District

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Amanda Pohl recently announced that she is ending her congressional campaign in Virginia's First District.

In an announcement on Tuesday, Sept. 15, a statement from Pohl was released explaining her decision, detailing what she has done throughout the campaign up until this point and thanking those that have supported her.

"As I examine my role in how to best serve the people of the First Congressional District, and given the crises in our local community of ICE detaining people trying to have their day in court, I've come to the decision that my efforts will be best focused on continuing my service to constituents as the Chesterfield County Circuit Court Clerk," Pohl said in the statement.

Earlier this month, Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor announced her own campaign for the spot, with endorsements from U.S. Senator Tim Kaine and Congressman Don Beyer, among others.

Currently, the seat is taken by Rob Wittman, who has served in Virginia’s First Congressional District since 2007, with a focus on military and veteran support alongside fixing local infrastructure.
