Applications open for Virginia ABC alcohol education, prevention grant program

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) is accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Alcohol Education and Prevention Grant program.

The program is part of efforts to prevent underage and high-risk drinking throughout the commonwealth, and will accept applications from now until March 1.

Since 2013, an average of $80,000 has been awarded by Virginia ABC each year to organizations working to discourage underage and high-risk drinking, per a release.

Each organization is eligible to receive up to $10,000 to support evidence-based projects that encourage partnerships between other organizations.

Those encouraged to apply include community coalitions, law enforcement, nonprofits, schools, government entities, colleges and universities, faith-based organizations and prevention-related groups.

One or more of the following focus areas of prevention must be addressed in any proposed projects:

  • Underage drinking
  • Providing or serving alcohol to youth
  • High-risk drinking

Applications are available online alongside an application guide provided by Virginia ABC, and can be found by clicking here. All applications are due by 5 p.m. on March 1.
