Armstrong football agrees to resume game with Thomas Jefferson after delay, forfeiture confusion

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A sudden delay turned into a controversial back-and-forth for Thursday night's football game between Armstrong and Thomas Jefferson high schools.
Armstrong was leading 21-7 in the third quarter when a lightning delay caused play to be halted. Because Thomas Jefferson's home field doesn't have any stadium lighting, the teams were unable to wait for the weather to clear up as daylight diminished.
A short while after the initial delay, it was decided that the game would be suspended until 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8.
A source from Armstrong's camp told 8News they initially disagreed with the Monday night continuation due to the team's scheduled travel to North Carolina next Friday.
As a result, Thomas Jefferson's Student Activities Director, Shea Collins, posted on social media, calling the game a forfeit in favor of the Vikings -- despite the 21-7 score in Armstrong's favor on Thursday night.
The following morning, on Friday, Sept. 5, Armstrong announced that it would play on Monday night.
