COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News is your back-to-school headquarters this 2025-2026 school year! Here's what students and families kicking off a new academic year at Colonial Heights Public Schools need to know.

The 2025-26 school year for Colonial Heights Public Schools students will begin on Aug. 18.

Things to know and what to bring to school

Officials with the school district advised parents and students to regularly check the Colonial Heights Public Schools website, as well as their social media platforms, for updates about open houses, bus routes and supply lists.

The school district also announced that they are fully staffed throughout all departments for the 2025-26 school year.

In terms of meal menus for students, they vary by school. A list of the schools, and their meal menus, can be found by clicking here. Students and parents can also view daily meal menus by using the Colonial Heights Public Schools mobile app.

Policies, changes for students and families to know about

There have not been any changes made to the school district's security procedures or cell phone policies. In terms of cell phones policies, the requirements change depending on the grade grouping a student is in.

For students in kindergarten through fifth grade, they can use cell phones if permission is granted by their parents.

For students in sixth through eighth grade, cell phones must be turned off and put away during the school day.

For students in ninth through twelfth grade, cell phones must be turned off and put away during class time, but they may use them during lunch, between classes, after school and on the bus.
