Baltimore man arrested in Albemarle for alleged sexual assault linked to dating app

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 32-year-old Baltimore man was arrested in Albemarle County last week for allegedly sexually assaulting a person he met on a dating app.

According to the Albemarle County Police Department, the suspect used the alias "Wayne Washington" on the dating app when he and the victim connected. Police said the suspect traveled to the Charlottesville area to meet the victim. He was supposed to help them purchase a vehicle.

Investigators found that the name provided to the victim on said app was "fraudulent" after a months-long investigation.

Thirty-two-year-old Shane Driscoll, of Baltimore, Maryland, was taken into custody last week on two felony charges.

On Monday, Dec. 1, Driscoll was indicted by an Albemarle County grand jury on an additional charge. He faces three charges in total: rape, abduction with the intent to defile and communicating a threat in writing.

Driscoll is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may have encountered this man on a dating app is urged to contact Detective Ricci with the Albemarle County Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at 434-296-5807.
