Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge over James River damaged after pickup truck crashes into side barrier
PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge, which spans over the James River from Prince George County to Charles City County, was damaged in a crash Friday morning.
Just before 2 a.m. on Friday, May 9, Prince George County Fire and EMS crews responded to a crash on the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge.
Officials said that when crews arrived, they found a pickup truck that had gone through a section of the bridge's barrier after hitting the side of the bridge.
"Incidents like this highlight the risks associated with elevated and high-speed roadways—particularly the potential for serious outcomes near water crossings," officials said.

The bridge was reportedly damaged in the crash, but Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews made repairs while the bridge was closed. It reopened just before 8 a.m. that Friday.
Officials have not yet confirmed the number of people injured or the severity of their injuries in the crash.
