Bicyclist injured in hit-and-run involving tractor-trailer on I-95 in Henrico, police investigate

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police are investigating after a bicyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash while attempting to cross Interstate 95 South in Henrico County on Monday.

Virginia State Police said the crash involving a bicyclist occurred at about 4:05 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, on I-95 South at the Chamberlayne Avenue exit, in Henrico County.

Police said an initial investigation shows a man was attempting to cross the interstate on a bicycle when a tractor-trailer hit him.

Witnesses reported a vehicle as a red bobtail tractor with a flatbed that braked abruptly. The tractor-trailer then hit the bicyclist and drove away from the scene.

The suspect vehicle is expected to have damage to the left side, according to Virginia State Police.

Police continue to investigate.
