Body of missing 80-year-old Albemarle man found, police investigating

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The body of a missing 80-year-old man with dementia was found on Saturday, according to the Albemarle County Police Department.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, the Albemarle County Police Department shared that 80-year-old Lawrence Gaines Thomas of Albemarle was found dead that day. He had been considered a missing person for nearly a week.
At about 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, the Virginia State Police issued a missing senior alert for Thomas. He was last seen between 5 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, walking to the mailbox of his Secretary Sand Road home.
However, as of the time of reporting, it's unclear where the body was found and the cause of death, per a spokesperson with Albemarle Police.
A Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death of Thomas' death.
