Body recovered from James River near Mayo Bridge

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A body was recovered from the James River near the Mayo Bridge in Richmond on Saturday morning.

According to the Richmond Police Department, at around 8:44 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, officers assisted Richmond Fire Department crews at the Mayo Bridge for the report of an unresponsive man in the river.

When they arrived, the water rescue team found the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. As of the time of reporting, there is no indication of foul play.

Police also said the medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
