‘Buy Fluvanna First’ campaign incentivizes buying local this holiday season

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Fluvanna County is launching a campaign aimed at supporting local small businesses this holiday season. In a Nov. 20 press release, the county announced the launch of the "Buy Fluvanna First" campaign, which it says is meant to "[encourage] residents and visitors to shop locallyand support Fluvanna’s small business community, bringing a host of benefits to our county." According to the county, small businesses in Fluvanna are a vital part of its local economy. “Shopping locally is a direct investment in the future of our community," said Jennifer Schmack, the county's director of economic development. "It keeps money circulating in Fluvanna County, supports local job growth and highlights the small businesses that give our county its unique character." The first event under this campaign is the "Holiday Passport." Starting the week of Nov. 25, shoppers visiting any participating local businesses can pick up said passport and receive their first special sticker. Holiday shoppers who visit all of the participating businesses and fill out their passports with each business' sticker can turn it in for a chance at several prizes, donated by the involved businesses and then a grand prize donated by the Lake Monticello Golf Club. You can turn in your completed passport at any of said businesses or mail it to Fluvanna's Economic Development Office. The deadline is Jan. 5 and the prize drawing will take place Jan. 7.
