Cap Trail Summer Challenge invites people to explore the Virginia Capital Trail

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation is inviting people of all ages to participate in the Cap Trail Summer Challenge to explore as many miles of the scenic route as they can.

Those who want to participate have from now until Sept. 8 to run, bike, walk or skate along the 51.7-mile Virginia Capital Trail that runs from Richmond to Jamestown.

The Cap Trail Summer Challenge provides three distance goals, as described by the foundation:

  • 51.7 miles -- Travel the entire distance of the trail
  • 103.4 miles -- Make a full round trip for the "There and Back Again" trek
  • 517 miles -- Finish the trail 10 times to celebrate the trail's 10th birthday

People have the choice to complete their chosen challenge in one trip or they can make it in several smaller segments -- the only requirement is to travel past each mile marker between Richmond and Jamestown.
