CarMax Richmond Half Marathon sells out ahead of race day

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The CarMax Richmond Half Marathon has officially sold out, reaching its 10,000-participant cap nearly 10 weeks before runners take off on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The sellout follows the Allianz Richmond Marathon, which filled up in late August. Together, the races highlight growing demand for Richmond’s fall race weekend, which also includes the VCU Health Richmond 8k.

“This year marks my first as Event Director, and after 19 years with Sports Backers, it’s incredibly meaningful to see the Allianz Richmond Marathon and CarMax Richmond Half Marathon sell out earlier than ever before,” said Meghan Keogh, Race Director. “Richmond’s reputation as ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon’ continues to grow, and the enthusiasm from runners shows just how much people want to be part of the community we’ve built here.”

Organizers say runners from across the country are drawn by the city’s fast, scenic courses, as well as community traditions like block parties, live music and cheering spectators.

Those who missed registration can still join a waiting list until Oct. 30, the deadline for distance switches and deferrals. A limited number of charity entries are also available, requiring a $750 fundraising commitment for Kids On The Move and Active Living Leadership ALL Stars.

Meanwhile, the VCU Health Richmond 8k is already more than halfway full and is also expected to sell out before race day.
