WATCH: Power lines down, pickup truck damaged after fire in Richmond’s Southside

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One firefighter was taken to the hospital and several power lines were down after a fire broke out in Richmond's Southside on Tuesday.

8News saw smoke from the fire on our weather cam and reached out to city officials. You can see a snapshot of the smoke below or watch the video above.

According to authorities, at around 4:17 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, crews with the Richmond Fire Department responded to the 2700 block of Lockhaven Boulevard for a report of smoke. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire involving a car and a shed in the rear of a home with the potential of spreading to nearby objects.

Officials said based on preliminary information, the fire stemmed from a debris burn in a barrel that was left unattended.

The fire also severed power lines connected to the shed. Dominion Energy responded to address the situation, according to officials.

Crews promptly marked the fire under control. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and has since been released. Authorities continue to investigate.
