Carytown sign returns in full illumination after repairs to lighting issue
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The "CARYTOWN" neon art-deco sign that welcomes drivers to Richmond's Cary Street has been reinstalled and is fully illuminated after it was taken down temporarily for repairs to a lighting issue.
The sign was reinstalled in the early hours on Thursday, Nov. 13, above Cary Street with improved, higher power transformers and new air vents, according to the Carytown Merchants Association.
A spokesperson for the association said the sign-maker, Wellcraft MFG, finished the replacement and testing, and reinstalled the sign.

This comes after the sign was taken down temporarily to allow for repairs.
The sign has faced numerous issues since it was installed in October 2024 in the hopes of bringing more customers to the area's local businesses.
Both an apparent vandalism and repeated technical issues previously caused multiple incidents of partial blackouts that made the sign read "RYTOWN."
