Catch them if you can! Powhatan’s new acai food truck is on the move

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Watch out, Powhatan County -- a new business on wheels is on the move! Waimea Acai, a new acai food truck, is keeping others cool during this mid-summer heatwave.

The mother-daughter run business has been open for about 8 weeks and serves different areas within the county.

"There's not really anything like this in Powhatan, and I just kind of wanted to bring a unique, healthy, community-driven product to Powhattan," co-owner Victoria Fisher told 8News.

While these sorts of trucks are commonly found in many localities around the Downtown Richmond area, the 16-year-old business owner said she wanted to provide an option closer to home.

"Anytime I want wanted and I was able, I would drive like 25-30 minutes to Midlothian -- and I just wanted more convenience for people here," she said.

Victoria Fisher's mother and Waimea Acai co-owner, Clare Fisher, helps her operate the business.

"To see her passion turn into a product has been amazing," Clare Fisher said. "Also to see her connect with community -- we literally meet our neighbors this way."

Although running Waimea Acai is time-consuming, Victoria Fisher said she's always had an interest in the business side of things. Being homeschooled helps, as it allows her more time.

8News "scooped" a little deeper to understand why they decided to open up this food truck.

"I think we both are very nutrition-driven -- our whole family [is,] we just really like eating healthy, and it makes us feel good," Victoria said. "And I feel like Powhatan just needed something a little more new and interesting."
