Celebrate World Wildlife Day with Maymont in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- You can get up close and personal with animals at Maymont in Richmond during World Wildlife Day on Saturday, March 1.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can participate in presentations, enrichment activities, film screenings and more. More than a dozen wildlife organizations will be present including the Wildlife Center of Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

"We really want to showcase these animals," said Krista Weatherford, Maymont director of programming and community engagement. "Help to educate the public about species that they may see commonly in their backyards or animals that they're afraid of or nervous about. Clear up some misconceptions and that type of thing."

Visitors will also find animal keeper talks and animal feedings at the event.

The event is free and open to the public, but several sessions are open on a first-come, first-served basis.

Visitors can enjoy activities at two Maymont locations:

  • Robins Nature Center located at 2201 Shields Lake Drive
  • Maymont Farm located at 1001 Spottswood Rd.

A full schedule of Saturday's events and how to RSVP can be found on Maymont's website.
