Chesterfield Board of Supervisors expected to choose interim supervisor after five-term supervisor dies
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors is expected to choose an interim supervisor for the Dale District next Wednesday after the five-term Board of Supervisors member died following a battle with cancer last month.
According to a Nov. 5 release, the board is expected to appoint LeQuan M. Hylton to serve as the interim supervisor for the Dale District seat during a special meeting.
The meeting is set to take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the county’s Historic 1917 Courthouse, located at 10011 Iron Bridge Road.

On the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 14, Chesterfield leaders announced that James Holland -- who represented the Dale District on the county’s Board of Supervisors -- had died that afternoon in his home, surrounded by his family. He was 73 years old.
“As a board, we are coalescing around one of Jim Holland’s last wishes that Dr. Hylton be appointed to the interim Dale District seat,” said Board Chair and Bermuda District Supervisor Jim Ingle. “Dr. Hylton has served admirably on the Planning Commission, demonstrating his commitment to continuing Jim Holland’s legacy and brand of selfless service to the district and county.”
According to a release, Hylton served as the appointed Dale District Planning Commission member since 2019, and is expected to be sworn in immediately following the appointment on Nov. 12.
Hylton, a longtime resident of the county since 1998, is a combat veteran of Afghanistan who serves as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He also co-founded Hylton & Company, a real estate and construction firm.
A special election in November 2026 is expected to determine who will assume the remainder of Holland’s four-year term.
