Chesterfield County breaks ground on new, larger animal shelter

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- This morning, Chesterfield County hosted its official groundbreaking ceremony for the new animal shelter.

At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, Chesterfield County leaders gathered at the site of the new Chesterfield County Animal Shelter for the official ground breaking ceremony.

According to the county, the new animal shelter will help maintain quality care and service by expanding the facility’s size from roughly 10,400 square feet to 31,000 square feet.

Expected to be completed in October 2026, the new facility will be located on Government Center Parkway and will feature an enhanced lobby, meet-and-greet rooms and other improvements.
