Chesterfield deputy rescues baby deer found on roadway

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Oh deer! This wasn't your average everyday police call -- a Chesterfield County deputy received a call about an injured baby deer stranded on the road last week.

The deer was rescued on Thursday, May 22, after a call for service went out to the Huguenot Road area in the county, according to a social post.

When career deputy Kevin Norkunas arrived on the scene, he found the baby deer at the edge of the roadway. He then evaluated the baby deer for injuries and found that the deer was not injured but simply lethargic.

After a few calls, which included a call from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, Norkunas brought the animal inside his vehicle along with him.

After several minutes, the deer became more responsive. Norkunas then released the deer to its mother, who was waiting off in the distance by the high-traffic roadway and reportedly "scared and hesitant," according to the sheriff's office. Then the two deer reunited for a happily ever after like ending.
