Chesterfield diner doing what it can to help those impacted by Richmond’s boil water advisory

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Local restaurants lining Cary Street boasted "closed" signs in their windows this week, their doors shuttering for the second time this year due to a boil water advisory in the city of Richmond.

But right over city lines, local businesses are helping provide clean and safe drinking water to those who need it.

One restaurant owner in Chesterfield told 8News she's just doing what she can.

“Just from a restaurant’s perspective, if you don’t have clean water, you don’t- you can't operate," The Diner at Cross Pointe owner Jenny Hook said. “You’re not just down as a business, but you’re down on all the employees that depend on that money to support their families.”

The diner, located at 8245 Hull Street Road, is close to the Richmond city line, bringing in Richmond clientele, while still having safe Chesterfield water.

After the advisory was put in place on Tuesday, Hook immediately posted to social media that anyone can bring jugs and coolers to fill with water or ice.

“I have four kids," she said. "I can’t imagine not having water.”

As a business owner, Hook knows how catastrophic it can be to have to close, so this isn’t the first time she's tried to help out like this.

“We did participate and try to help out during the first water crisis back in January," she said.

Hook said they’ll be offering the water through the end of the week, or until Richmond gets the water back to safe standing.
