Chesterfield firefighters respond to hundreds of calls the morning after winter storm
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Firefighters with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS responded to hundreds of calls in a six-hour period Wednesday morning in the wake of Tuesday's winter storm.
Much of Central Virginia saw snow, sleet and freezing rain starting the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 11, as a winter storm moved into the area. The area saw widespread power outages, many downed trees and more going into Wednesday, Feb. 13.
In Chesterfield, firefighters received 250 calls for service from 6 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, according to fire officials. Among those were 111 calls for trees down, 41 calls for hazardous conditions and 28 calls for issues like downed power lines or transformer fires.

This included an electrical fire in an Ashburn Road home caused by a downed tree.
"To put that in perspective, that is typically the number of calls we run during an entire 24-hour period," fire officials said.
