Chesterfield man killed in Prince William County crash
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a deadly crash on Interstate 95 in Prince William County that killed a man from the Chester area of Chesterfield County on Tuesday.
According to state police, a deadly two-vehicle crash occurred at 2:39 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in the express lanes of I-95 southbound in Prince William County, which killed a 57-year-old man from the Chester area.
Authorities said a 2020 Lexus RX was stopped on the right shoulder of the express lanes when it was hit by a 2022 Ford F-250 that had traveled off the right side of the road.
After being hit, the Lexus reportedly hit the guardrail and then went back into the travel lanes, where it stopped and faced traffic.
The driver of the Lexus, identified as 57-year-old Vernon S. Lee, II, of Chester, died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police. He was wearing a seatbelt.
State police said a passenger, identified as 25-year-old Shannon S. Lee, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. She was also reportedly wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Ford F-250, Jeremy S. Kubela, 43, of Fredericksburg, was not injured and has been charged with reckless driving, according to officials.
The crash remains under investigation.
