Chesterfield mother charged in death of 28-year-old son with autism
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department has arrested the mother of a 28-year-old man with autism who died in an incident they have deemed a "suspicious death."
Officers were called to the 14400 block of Woods Walk Lane on Wednesday, Oct. 22, after receiving a call for a cardiac arrest.
After arriving at the scene, officers took a man -- identified as 28-year-old Somak Nath -- to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Following his death, Nath was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office.
"On October 23, 2025, the Chesterfield Police Department received information from the Medical Examiner’s Office regarding the circumstances of Nath’s death," a release from the Chesterfield County Police Department reads. "Nath had autism and was unable to care for himself."
Manisha Nath, Somak's mother, has been arrested and charged with abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death.
"She is being held without bond in Chesterfield County Jail," the release from police reads. "Additional charges may be obtained later."
