Chesterfield police seeks assistance in solving a 2016 murder

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in solving a 2016 murder. At around 10:57 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29 back in 2016, Chesterfield police responded to a shooting that took place at the Econo Lodge located at 2310 Indian Hill Road. After officers arrived, they found the front desk clerk, Jerry Vadal Colyer, dead from a gunshot wound. According to Chesterfield police, the suspect entered the hotel lobby, showed his gun and demanded cash. Colyer complied to the suspect's demands, but the suspect shot and killed him anyway. Police described the suspect as a black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, a red brimmed hat, jeans, dark-colored shoes and belt. He left the scene on foot headed towards Woods Edge Road.
