Chesterfield resident, dog without a home after kitchen fire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Chesterfield County resident and their dog are without a home after a Wednesday evening kitchen fire.

Just after 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to a home in the 10300 block of Hollyberry Drive for report of a fire.

When they arrived, firefighters found smoke pouring from the home and fire in its kitchen, which had spread to the attic and roof.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire in just over a half-hour.

One resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. According to fire officials, they will recover. Their dog was rescued from the fire without injury.

That person -- and their dog -- were displaced by the fire's damage. They are being assisted by family, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
