Chesterfield Sheriff Karl Leonard to walk on fire after reaching donation goal
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After raising $15,000 for Special Olympics Virginia as part of the Polar Plunge in February, Chesterfield Sheriff Karl Leonard will fulfill his promise to walk on fire.
According to the sheriff's office, Leonard will walk on fire at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7 at the Special Olympics Virginia headquarters, located at 3212 Skipwith Rd. The event will also be livestreamed on the sheriff's office's Facebook page.
In total, officials said Leonard surpassed his goal and raised $17,075 for the organization through donations.
“These funds will go directly to supporting the 21,000 Special Olympic athletes in Virginia through a host of sporting events held throughout the Commonwealth this year as well as much needed medical care… at no cost to the athletes… at various sporting venues," Leonard said.
