Chesterfield to celebrate Rockwood Park’s 50th anniversary

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation is inviting residents to come out an join them in celebrating 50 years of Rockwood Park.

The announcement for the family friendly event came via Facebook, and will take place at Rockwood Park parking lot Saturday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Activities will range from Rockwood Nature activities and park tours to DJ's and the reveal of a special ice cream flavor from Gelati Celesti.

At noon, 8News Meteorologist Jacqueline Waters will make an appearance at the parks 50th celebration.

Other activities at the park's celebration will include:

  • At 11 a.m. Gelati Celesti will provide flavor samples to attendees while supplies last.
  • At 11:30 a.m. event goers can hear remarks from Clover Hill District, Board of Supervisors, Jessica Schneider.
  • At noon guests can also go on a guided hike with a naturalist at Rockwood Nature Center.
  • 12:30 p.m.-- A history walk "The Revolutionary War at Rockwood Park," will also be available.
  • 1 p.m. -- Another hike with a naturalist at Rockwood Nature Center will be offered for those in attendance to participate in.
  • At 1:30 p.m. Animal Ambassadors and Nature in Our Backyard will be featured along with environmental educators at Rockwood Nature Center.
  • At 1:30 p.m. attendees will also have the option to participate in another history walk, "The Revolutionary War at Rockwood Park."
  • The Latino Farmers Market will also be there from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., which will also feature a bounce house.
