Child shot and killed in Chesterfield, police investigating
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department is continuing to investigate after a child was shot and killed on Thursday night.
At 7:08 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department were called to the 2800 block of Avalon Heights Road for a report of a person shot.

When they arrived, officers found a child at the residence who had sustained a gunshot wound. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
8News is working to learn the age and gender of the victim, as well as the circumstances of their death. An update will be provided when possible.
Police said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community at this time.
