Claude Monet: The Immersive Experience now open in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A new, immersive exhibit highlighting the life and work of French artist Claude Monet will open at the Exhibition Hub Art Center in Short Pump on Thursday, Oct. 23.

Claude Monet: The Immersive Experience features 10,000 square feet of immersive storytelling that brings the artist's iconic works to life.

"Claude Monet is one of the pivotal artists in history," Chuck Staudenmaier, Exhibition Hub manager, told 8News. "He challenged the status quo at that time that was in practice in the Paris art salons. He and the other Impressionists used different techniques, different subjects, different lighting, different color palettes to show a view of the world that was just not seen before then."

The exhibition features a re-creation of the artist's studio in Giverny, France and the garden that became the inspiration for many of his well known works.

"He dug the gardens," Staudenmaier said. "He planted the flowers. He diverted a river to help fill up the ponds there, and that work would become a labor of love. It would become his muse, and he would use that as the centerpiece of his later work in life."

The exhibition also features a 360-degree display of his masterpieces, and a virtual reality experience that highlights the inspiration of eight of his works.

The exhibition is open Thursday through Monday through May.

Tickets start at $28.90 for adults and $17.90 for children. You're encouraged to buy your tickets in advance online at the Claude Monet: The Immersive Experience website.

Exhibition Hub Art Center is located at 12151 West Broad Street in Henrico.
