Commercial spaces opening soon at The Lake development in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Officials are reporting progress in the multi-phase plans for The Lake, a development project claiming to be the “first large-scale surf park on the East Coast.”
A spokesperson with the Chesterfield County Planning Department told 8News that various retail stores are quickly on their way to completion at the corner of Genito Road and Genito Place, including a Starbucks and Chipotle.
"On the west side of Genito Place we have development plans for multi-family apartments and townhomes," the department spokesperson said. "Interior to the site we have a Springhill Suites hotel with 113 rooms currently under site plan review."
According to the spokesperson, there is no firm date yet for The Lake's surf park component but they are currently reviewing construction plans that will go into effect as other components such as water features go through permitting.
Earlier this month, county officials broke ground on the River City Sportsplex, a "park within a park" featuring an outdoor fitness zone, a spray park and a game space for young people. The county also announced plans to re-open the historic Southside Speedway.
While these projects are separate from The Lake, all three are in close proximity to each other.
