Community invited to donate new school supplies to students in Prince George County
PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- As the new school year approaches, Prince George County Public School is encouraging the community to donate new school supplies to students in the county during its Summertime Drive.
Thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies have been given to local students over the years, and Prince George County Public Schools would like to keep the momentum going by asking the community to contribute new school supplies to go towards the Summertime Drive.
According to a press release from the school system, just like last year, backpacks will be available in August at each school's orientation -- see orientation dates and times below:
School Orientations
- Prince George High School -- Aug. 12 -- 3 to 6 p.m.
- N.B. Clements Junior High School -- Aug. 13 -- 3 to 6 p.m.
- All Elementary Schools -- Aug. 14 -- Morning sessions
- J.E.J. Moore Middle School -- Aug. 14 -- noon to 4 p.m.
The backpacks will be filled with supplies that can include No. 2 pencils, blue or black pens, highlighters, crayons, loose-leaf paper, notebooks, index cards, glue sticks and folders.
Donations can be dropped of Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations until Tuesday, Aug. 5:
- Prince George County School Board Office -- 6410 Courts Drive
- Prince George County Police Department -- 6600 Laurel Spring Road
- Prince George County Department of Social Services -- 6450 Administration Drive
- Prince George Library, ARLS -- 6605 Courts Drive
The donation deadline also coincides with Virginia's annual sales tax holiday for school supplies priced less than $20, as well as qualifying clothes, emergency preparation product and energy-efficient appliances -- beginning Aug. 1 through Aug. 3.
