Cucumber salad sold across Virginia recalled for Salmonella risk
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Marinated cucumber salad sold in Virginia has been recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination.
On Wednesday, May 21, Ukrop's Homestyle Foods announced that it is recalling three of its products that use Bedner Growers cucumbers. That grower recently issued a recall on its cucumbers due to potential Salmonella contamination -- the second such recall in a year.
These products were sold at Food Lion and Kroger grocery stores across Virginia, per a Ukrop's press release. They were also sold at the Libbie Market and the Ukrop's Market Hall, both in Richmond.

The impacted products -- pictured above -- are as follows:
- 16-ounce Marinated Cucumber Salad (UPC 72251524902)
- 36-ounce Marinated Cucumber Salad (UPC 72251525224)
- 5-pound Marinated Cucumber Salad Bulk (UPC 72251529354)
If you have any of these products in your home, check its sell-by date. If said date falls between May 11 and May 26, your item is within the recalled lot and could be contaminated with Salmonella.
Do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
Impacted stores are actively pulling these items from their shelves as of Wednesday, Ukrops said.
If you have already eaten an impacted product, you could be at risk of illness.
Typical symptoms of Salmonella infection include watery diarrhea that may be bloody or contain mucus, stomach cramps, headache, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
These symptoms usually appear between 6 hours to 6 days after exposure to Salmonella bacteria and usually last between 4 to 7 days.
If you have diarrhea for more than two days, bloody stool or urine, a fever higher than 102 degrees Fahrenheit or show signs of dehydration, call your doctor, as your illness could be serious.
As of the time of reporting, a total of 26 people have reported becoming sick after eating contaminated Bedner Growers cucumbers.
