COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- The decomposing body of a German Shepherd was found wrapped in blankets in Colonial Heights on Wednesday, with authorities asking anyone who may know what happened to the dog to come forward.
The night of Wednesday, July 30, Colonial Heights Animal Control officers were called to Roslyn Landing River Walk for report of a deceased canine.
When they arrived, the officers searched a wooded area and found a dead black and tan German Shepherd. The dog was wrapped in a grey sheet and a grey "sherpa-type" blanket.
An examination of the teeth suggested the dog may have been of older age -- but little else could be learned about the animal at the scene due to how decomposed its body was. Its sex could not be determined by sight.
