Detainees more than double at Farmville Detention Center since October of 2024
PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The number of people detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Farmville Detention Center in Prince Edward County has more than doubled since October of 2024, according to the agency's data.
According to data collected by ICE on May 27, 2025, there were reportedly 542 detainees at the Farmville Detention Center, located in Prince Edward County, which is more than double the number of detainees recorded by ICE on Oct. 7, 2024 -- with that figure being 241.
The Caroline Detention Center, located in Caroline County, also saw an increase in detainees from Oct. 7, 2024, to May 27, 2025, though not as staggering, with a rise from 240 to 293.
Despite this, ICE data showed that detainees' average length of stay at the Farmville facility decreased from 58 to 49 days over those two periods. The Caroline facility also decreased from 58 to 53 days.
The majority of detainees at both detention centers, when data was collected in October of 2024 and May of 2025, were considered by the agency to pose no ICE threat level. Others were categorized as having an ICE threat level between one and three.
ICE threat levels pertain to security requirements, with the agency reportedly making categorizations based on convictions of physical violence and possible patterns of such incidents. Changes may be made to these classifications due to incidents, appeals and other information, according to the agency.
The Caroline facility was last inspected on April 15, and passed, and the Farmville facility was last inspected on Dec. 19, 2024, when it also passed.
ICE's webpage for its statistics on detainees noted that data may change until it is locked at the end of the fiscal year.
"Data may fluctuate until it is locked at the conclusion of the fiscal year," the webpage said.
