Diwali celebration kicks off this weekend in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Residents can celebrate Diwali, the Hindu "Festival of Lights" that features food, traditional attire and performances, in Richmond this weekend.
The celebration is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, located at 7041 Route 1 in North Chesterfield.
Organizers said there will be hundreds of vegetarian dishes, lights and interactives displays, and exhibitions highlighting family values, harmony and service — following this year's theme of unity. The event is expected to draw thousands of visitors throughout the day.
The Richmond Mandir will also host a separate kids' Diwali celebration on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 6 p.m.
The Sunday event will have stage programs, fireworks, concessions and moonbounces, organizers said. Tickets are $7.
