DNC makes 6-figure investment in Virginia Democrats’ campaign efforts as Election Day approaches

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- With just a few weeks until Virginians take to the ballot box, the Democratic National Convention (DNC) is making a significant investment in Virginia Democrats' "Get Out The Vote" efforts.

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Virginia voters will make several important decisions, including who they want to lead the state for the next few years. The offices of the governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general are all on the ballot.

In an Oct. 20 press release exclusively shared with 8News, the DNC announced that it will be making a "six-figure organizing investment" into Virginia, with these dollars to be funnelled into "on-the-ground voter contact efforts in the final stretch" of the election season.

"Democrats are leaving nothing to chance to reach every voter we can from now until election day," the DNC said in the release.

Democrats will use this funding to advance a variety of campaign efforts, including hiring and deploying field staff across the state. The investment will also support "expanding [Democrats'] reach to key constituencies that [it] lost ground with in the November 2024 elections, such as Black, Latino and AANHPI voters who make up a large share of Virginia’s populations."

8News asked the DNC if it could provide a more specific dollar amount for this investment. A spokesperson said they could not share any more information. However, this funding does come on the heels of a previous $3 million investment, which the DNC described as "one of the largest investments in Virginia the DNC has ever made."

In the release, DNC chair Ken Martin shared the following statement:

“As voters start heading to the polls, the DNC is ensuring Virginians know the stakes of this election. While Republicans continue to defend Donald Trump’s toxic agenda that is destroying the economy, forcing over 300,000 Virginians to go without paychecks, and driving up inflation for families, Democrats like Abigail Spanberger are laser-focused on lowering costs and protecting jobs. As Donald Trump drags down Republicans and causes chaos, Democrats are in an incredibly strong position: We have a winning strategy and a winning message. With this investment to turbocharge on-the-ground GOTV efforts across the Commonwealth, Democrats are preparing  to win big up and down the ballot.”
