Dominion Energy Riverrock makes a splash at Brown’s Island in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond's biggest outdoor and music festival -- Dominion Energy Riverrock -- is returning to Brown's Island, with kayaking, trail runs, mountain biking, dog jumping and live music performances spanning throughout the weekend.

The festival will be held from Friday, May 16, through Sunday, May 18, for its 17th year. The event is free to attend, with attendees able to participate in trail runs, mountain biking, yoga, dog jumping, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, skimboarding and slacklining.

Attendees can also participate in a photo or video contest, watch elite slackliners perform stunts on lines suspended over the canal and see climbers from across the country take on a 20-foot tall bouldering cave.

PREVIOUSLY: Dominion Energy Riverrock returns for its 17th year at Brown’s Island

Riverrock's festivities kick off at 5 p.m. on Friday. Activities include the Subaru Ultimate Air Dogs competition, the Belle Isle Blitz 5K trail running event, the MTB Time Trial mountain biking race, Boulder Bash rock climbing competition, slackline highline and a new Dog Agility event.

Following scheduled events throughout the weekend, free concerts will cap off each evening. Friday's musical lineup includes Garden Variety String Band at 6:30 p.m., followed by Mountain Grass Unit at 8 p.m.

Day two -- Saturday -- features the James River Scramble 10kish, yoga presented by Reign Storm, MTB Enduro cross-country style mountain biking race, Kayak Boatercross, SUP Cross paddling tournament, Cup of the East Kayak Water Polo tournament, Boulder Bash Finals and a variety of free demos at the Adventure zones -- where guests can try out outdoor activities.

Saturday night's music performances include Mikaela Davis at 6:15 p.m. and Andy Frasco and the U.N. at 8 p.m.

The final day of the festival, Sunday, offers even more activities, such as the Bust the Banks Half Marathon, Adventure Race multi-sport event, Downriver Paddle, yoga presented by Reign Storm, Boulder Blitz, Cup of the East Kayak Polo finals and additional Subaru Ultimate Air Dogs and Dog Agility competitions.

Suggesting Rhythm will perform at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, with the festival concluding at 5 p.m.

In addition to activities and performances, attendees can purchase drinks or food from a variety of vendors.

Online registration for all participatory events will remain open throughout the weekend, according to organizers. Participants can register online and pick up their packets on-site at the start area for each respective event. Those who register will receive an event t-shirt and a drink ticket.
