Downed power lines cause closure of part of New Kent Highway

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Downed power lines have caused the closure of part of New Kent Highway in New Kent County Monday morning.

The New Kent County Sheriff's Office announced on social media at 7:09 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, that the 5700 block of New Kent Highway -- just east of Turnstall Road and Airport Road -- was closed in both directions due to downed power lines.

Officials said the road would be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Drivers were urged to choose alternate routes.

An update will reportedly provided as soon as the roadway reopens.

"Thank you for your patience and cooperation as crews work to clear the area safely," the sheriff's office said.
