Driver dead after crash on I-95 South in Caroline

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A driver is dead after they were hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 South in Caroline County on Sunday.
At about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, troopers with the Virginia State Police were called to I-95 southbound near Ladysmith Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash.
At this time, investigators believe that a vehicle moving in the center lane hit another vehicle in the left lane. While the second vehicle maintained control and stopped on the right shoulder, the first vehicle came to rest across the center and right lanes.
It's there that the tractor-trailer hit the first vehicle, police said. The impact pushed the vehicle onto the right shoulder.
The driver of that vehicle was taken to a local hospital, where they later died. Police could not share any identifying details about the driver at this time, but a spokesperson did say they were "related to the remaining occupants of the vehicle."
No additional information, such as any potential injuries to anyone else involved in the crash, is available as of the time of reporting. The spokesperson said an update will be provided when possible.
