Driver injured after ice shatters windshield on Chippenham Parkway

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A driver was injured after ice fell from a passing vehicle and shattered her windshield while driving on Chippenham Parkway on Thursday morning.

At about 9:10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, Virginia State Police troopers were dispatched to a report of a 2023 Mitsubishi SUV with a shattered windshield caused by ice, injuring the driver, northbound on Chippenham Parkway just north of Jahnke Road in Chesterfield County.

Police said an initial investigation shows that ice fell from a passing vehicle and hit the Mitsubishi's windshield, causing it to shatter.

The driver, a woman, of Prince George County, was taken to Chippenham Hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation.
