Driver seriously injured after crash involving Goochland fire truck on Route 288
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A driver was seriously injured when he crashed into a Goochland Fire truck while it was responding to a separate crash at the James River Bridge on Route 288 early Saturday morning.
Virginia State Police said troopers responded at about midnight on Saturday, Nov. 8, to a single-vehicle crash on southbound Route 288 after a sedan had hit the guardrail in the area.
While officials with Goochland Fire were blocking the left travel lane — with their emergency lights activated — a second sedan, driven by 20-year-old Edgar Ruiz Carrillo of Midlothian, hit the rear end of the fire truck.

According to state police, Carrillo was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
No firefighters were injured in either crash. The driver in the initial crash — who hit the guardrail — suffered non-life-threatening injuries unrelated to the second crash.
Virginia State Police continues to investigate both crashes.
